Salamat Azimi

Professor Dr. Salamat Azimi was born in Andkhoi district of Faryab province. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Law and Political Science from Kabul University in 1990, followed by a Master’s degree in Law and Criminology (2014), a second Master’s in Gender and Women’s Studies (2018), and a Ph.D. in Law and Criminology (2021).

She has served as a Professor at Kabul and Balkh Universities and held key academic roles, including Member of the Scientific Council, Member of the Quality Assurance Committee, and Head of the Department of Private Law and Criminal Law at Balkh University.

Nationally, she served as Minister of Counter Narcotics of Afghanistan (2015–2019) and participated in several Emergency, Traditional, and Peace Loya Jirgas. She was also a member of the Human Rights Commission in Northern Afghanistan (2003–2015) and actively engaged in legal and women’s rights organizations.

Dr. Azimi has published extensively in the fields of law, human rights, women’s rights, and child rights. After leaving Afghanistan in 2021, she immigrated to Canada in 2022 and continues her professional engagement in human rights and public service.
