Professor Dr. Salamat Azimi is a legal scholar, university professor, and researcher specializing in law, human rights, and women’s studies. She completed her higher education in Law and Political Science at Kabul University and holds a Master’s degree in Law and Criminology, a Master’s degree in Gender and Women’s Studies, and a Ph.D. in Law and Criminology.
Throughout her academic career, Dr. Azimi taught at Kabul University and Balkh University, where she also held several academic and leadership positions, including membership in the Scientific Council, the Quality Assurance Committee, and Head of the Departments of Private Law and Criminal Law.
From 2015 to 2019, she served as Afghanistan’s Minister of Counter Narcotics and actively participated in Emergency, Traditional, and Peace Loya Jirgas. She also worked extensively with human rights and women’s rights institutions, including the Human Rights Commission in Northern Afghanistan.
Dr. Azimi has published numerous academic works in the fields of law, human rights, women’s rights, and children’s rights. Since immigrating to Canada in 2021, she has continued her academic, research, and advocacy work.
